Kagiso Rabada will learn his fate on Wednesday

South Africa pace bowler Kagiso Rabada’s appeal hearing against his Level 2 charge will take place on March 19.

Rabada, who will be represented by Dali Mpofu, was fined 50 percent of his match fee and handed three demerit points, which saw him banned for the remainder of the ongoing Test series against Australia, for making shoulder-to-shoulder contact with Baggy Greens skipper Steve Smith during the second Test in Port Elizabeth.

In addition to the incident involving Smith, Rabada was fined a further 15 percent of his match fee and handed another demerit point for giving Australia opener and vice-captain a send-off upon dismissing him in the second innings in Port Elizabeth. Rabada opted not to appeal against this charge.

With Rabada having lodged an appeal, the International Cricket Council (ICC) have appointed New Zealand’s Michael Heron as the judicial commissioner.

The hearing will take place via video conference and Heron will then have 48 hours to either uphold or overturn the ban.

Since Heron’s ultimate decision will be delivered on Wednesday, there is still a chance that Rabada will feature in the third Test in Cape Town.

Heron is not only a national commissioner for New Zealand Cricket, but he is also a member of the ICC’s code of conduct commission and dispute resolution committee.
