South Africa opener Aiden Markram and pace bowler Lungi Ngidi have been awarded central contracts for the 2018/19 season.
Markram has been an integral part of the Proteas’ Test side after making an excellent start to his career in the longest format. He also captained South Africa in the recent ODI series against India.
Ngidi made his Test debut in the three-Test series and India and fared extremely well in the two matches he played as he took nine wickets at an average of 17.22.
He also made his ODI debut against India and while he only played in four of the six matches, he claimed eight wickets at an average of 25.50.
Meanwhile, middle-order batsman Farhaan Behardien, opener Stephen Cook, all-rounder Wayne Parnell and spinner Aaron Phangiso were dropped from the list of centrally contracted players.
Seamer Morne Morkel was also cut, but it was due to the fact that he will retire from international cricket at the end of the ongoing four-Test series against Australia.
AB de Villiers received a central contract after making a successful comeback from a series of injuries, while pace maestro Dale Steyn was also re-contracted despite only playing one match in the previous contract period.
