On February 7, Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell lit up the Bellerive Oval in Hobart as he smashed an unbeaten 103 against England in the second game of the ongoing T20 tri-series.

Maxwell’s knock, coupled with his career-best figures of 3-10, helped Australia cruise to a five-wicket win.

However, after the game, Maxwell presented his bat to wicketkeeper Alex Carey, who played unselfishly and put Maxwell on strike in order for him to kill two birds with one stone as he reached his hundred and finished the game with a six.

Since Carey presented him with the opportunity to score his second Twenty20 International century, Maxwell presented his bat to the 26-year-old.

On the bat was a heart-warming inscription that read: “To Alex. Thanks for getting that single! Great partnership again! Best wishes, Glenn Maxwell. 103*.”

Carey admitted that Maxwell’s gesture signifies just how close the Australian team are.

“I thought the bat was pretty average but the writing on it was awesome,” Carey, who had a wry smile on his face, was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz. “It was obviously a nice gesture by Maxi and I think it just shows that the group is really close and we’re having a lot of fun.

“For someone like Maxi to do that for me in such a short space of time shows that we’ve got some really good blokes in the side.”

Carey has not really been given an opportunity to showcase what he can do with the bat in the ongoing T20 tri-series, but the Loxton native insists that if he is given the chance to prove his worth, he will grab it with both hands.

“I haven’t really had the opportunity to go out and play a big role with the stick but I’m working hard in the background,” he said. “I’m still learning at this level. But I’m thoroughly enjoying it and I’m sure if I get more of an opportunity I’ll be ready to go.”

Australia have already qualified for the T20 tri-series final, but before that, they will take on New Zealand in Auckland on Friday.
