The Kings XI Punjab have a slew of high-profile players in their squad for this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL), but Australia seamer Andrew Tye has admitted that he is excited to bowl to West Indies opener Chris Gayle.

Tye was picked up by the franchise for INR 7.2 crores, but Gayle was bought in the third round of the auction for his base price of INR 2 crores.

Tye admitted that given all the success Gayle has had in his Twenty20 career, he is eager to show the big-hitting Jamaican what he has to offer.

“It’ll be an awesome experience,” Tye was quoted as saying by CricTracker. “He (Gayle) has been the boss of T20 cricket for so long. It is fun and also scary at times bowling to the likes of him in the nets because they hit the ball very hard and you try not to get hit by it (laughs).”

Tye had a base price of INR 1 crore in the auction and admitted that he was shocked at how much he ended up going for.

“It took me a bit by surprise,” he conceded. “I was thinking I’ll probably get 3-4 crores if at all. The club is paying me that money because they really wanted me because I’ll fit in well in their team.”
