After being one of the busiest teams at the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction over the weekend, it has been reported that the Kings XI Punjab are considering changing their name.

The franchise, which is co-owned by Bollywood actress Preity Zinta, is considering implementing the change in identity prior to the upcoming edition of the tournament in April.

According to the Deccan Chronicle, a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) official has confirmed that the franchise has requested to change its name.

While it is unknown what the Punjab-based team want to change their name to, there are also rumours that they are planning to use another stadium as their home ground. The apparent move comes after they played in front of disappointing crowd sizes at the IS Bindra-Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) Stadium in Mohali in the 2017 IPL.

Despite the potential change in identify and home ground, the Kings XI Punjab were not shy to bid on numerous players during the auction and landed a number of high-profile cricketers, including Ravichandran Ashwin, Aaron Finch, David Miller and Chris Gayle, who, surprisingly, was bought right towards the end of auction.

Kings XI Punjab’s Squad: Akshar Patel, KL Rahul, Ravichandran Ashwin, Andrew Tye, Aaron Finch, Marcus Stoinis, Karun Nair, Mujeeb Zadran, Ankit Singh Rajpoot, David Miller, Mohit Sharma, Barinder Singh Sran, Yuvraj Singh, Christopher Gayle, Ben Dwarshuis, Akshdeep Nath, Manoj Tiwary, Mayank Agarwal, Manzoor Dar, Pardeep Sahu, Mayank Dagar
