Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews will be sidelined for the rest of the ODI tri-series in Bangladesh after aggravating an old hamstring injury.
Mathews has been bothered by the injury since January last year and it flared up once again during Sri Lanka’s loss to Zimbabwe.
With Mathews missing Sri Lanka’s match against Bangladesh, in which they were annihilated by 163 runs, he will now be sent back to Sri Lanka to undergo rehabilitation.
“Angelo [Mathews] is going back tomorrow to do rehab in Sri Lanka. We will then look at when we can bring him back, if he is fit,” sources told Cricbuzz.
Dinesh Chandimal was in charge during Sri Lanka’s match against Bangladesh and is likely to keep hold of the leadership role until the conclusion of the tournament.
