South Africa pace bowler Dale Steyn and captain Faf du Plessis are back in the Test squad for the first Test against India, which begins on January 5 in Cape Town.
Steyn was supposed to play in the inaugural four-day Test match against Zimbabwe on Boxing Day, but was ruled out of the game with a viral infection.
Du Plessis was listed as doubtful for the match as he was recovering from back and shoulder injuries. However, his recovery was halted when he too was diagnosed with a viral infection.
Meanwhile, wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock is set to be fit for the start of the series after suffering a hamstring strain during the four-day Test match.
All-rounder Chris Morris was also included in the side after recovering from a groin injury that had kept him sidelined until the start of the month.
Andile Phehlukwayo is the other all-rounder in the squad and retained his place following a strong showing against Zimbabwe, where he took a total of five wickets.
