Sri Lanka all-rounder Angelo Mathews has been ruled out of the second Test against Pakistan as he has failed to make a full recovery from a calf strain.

Mathews skipped the first Test as well, but there was hope that he would be ready to go prior to the second Test in Dubai, which will be a day-night affair.

Mathews, who sustained the injury during a training session, has now missed three Test series in the past 12 months as “multiple leg injuries” saw him miss the tour of Zimbabwe last October, while a torn hamstring sidelined him for Sri Lanka’s home series against Bangladesh in January.

Despite Mathews being absent for the first Test, Sri Lanka managed to secure a thrilling 21-run win thanks in large part to veteran spinner Rangana Herath.
