Australia pace bowler Pat Cummins has confirmed that opening batsman David Warner has been cleared of any serious injury after he was struck on the side of the neck during an intra-squad practice game in Darwin on Tuesday.

Warner was attempting to play a hook shot before being hit by a bouncer from seamer Josh Hazlewood.

The 30-year-old, who is Australia’s vice-captain in Tests, retired hurt, but left the field without any assistance.

“It’s good that Davey’s fine,” Cummins said at the end of the second day of the match between a David Warner XI and Steve Smith XI. “He’s a little bit stiff and sore, but just speaking to him then, he’s all fine.

“It’s only a practice match so he might or might not be out there tomorrow but he seems to be in pretty good shape.”

Warner will be sidelined for the third day as a precaution since Australia will travel to Bangladesh for a two-Test series on Friday. The first Test will get underway on August 27 in Mirpur.
