Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim is confident that his side can beat Australia in their upcoming two-Test series, which begins later this month.

Since Rahim was not part of the national team when Australia last toured Bangladesh for a Test series back in 2006, he admitted that he is excited about taking on the Baggy Greens for the first time on home soil.

“It will be my first Test match against Australia and the situation is same for most of us,” he said. “It is a great feeling. Australia are known to play aggressive cricket and we’ll also try to play with an aggressive mindset against them.”

Bangladesh have enjoyed a lot of success in Test cricket as of late as they defeated England last October and won their 100th Test match, which came against Sri Lanka, in March.

With this in mind, Rahim feels that his side can give Australia a run for their money.

“In the last 2-3 years some exciting players have come into our side and so we can now dream to win against any Test side,” he said. “If we can make the best use of our home condition, then I think we’ll be able to beat Australia. We have been working hard for that.”

However, while Rahim admitted that Bangladesh don’t possess a strong leg-spinner and pace spearhead, he is backing the bowling attack to get the job done.

“You have to take 20 wickets to win a Test match. In this sector, we have some lacking,” the 30-year-old said. “We don’t have a good leg-spinner and moreover, we don’t have a genuine fast bowler.

“We have two world-class bowler like Shakib and Taijul. Now, Miraj is here too. These three have the ability to take 20 wickets against any side in the world and they’ll get familiar pitches too. We have already proved our ability on our home soil by beating England. Hopefully, history will be repeated.”
