Sri Lanka all-rounder Thisara Perera is likely to miss his side’s must-win Champions Trophy showdown against Pakistan on Monday after taking a blow to the head.

Thisara sustained the injury while training in Cardiff on Saturday and his absence would be a huge loss for Sri Lanka, especially as batsman Kusal Perera was recently ruled out for the remainder of the tournament with a hamstring injury.

Despite being struck on the head, Thisara was cleared of any serious injury.

“In a most fortunate turn of events, there has been no serious injury and although under careful observation there is currently no complaint related to head injury, with only reports of tenderness in the area of impact,” a statement from Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said.

Should Sri Lanka win their match against Pakistan, they will face England in the semi-finals. However, if they lose, they will be eliminated and Pakistan will advance to the last four.
