All-rounder Marlon Samuels clubbed a career-best 89 not out to not only lead the West Indies to a seven-wicket win over Afghanistan in St Kitts, but also a 3-0 series win.

Choosing to bat first, Afghanistan lost opener Javed Ahmadi in the second over as he was trapped lbw off the bowling of Samuel Badree for a duck.

Just as the tourists were beginning to rebuild their innings, Noor Ali Zadran was clean bowled by Kesrick Williams for 35, while captain Asghar Stanikzai was removed by Rovman Powell for 13.

Afghanistan continued to lose wickets at regular intervals, but thanks to Mohammad Nabi’s 38 and wicketkeeper Shafiqullah’s 25, they managed to finish on 146/6 off their 20 overs.

Williams was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, while Badree, Powell and Jerome Taylor chipped in with one wicket apiece.

Chasing 147 to win, the West Indies got off to a disastrous start as Chadwick Walton was sent packing by Shapoor Zadran for a duck on the second ball of the innings.

Evin Lewis and Samuels made up for the loss of Walton with a 61-run partnership before Lewis was trapped lbw off the bowling of Nabi.

Despite Lendl Simmons falling shortly after, Samuels and Jason Mohammed finished things off with an unbeaten 65-run partnership.

Samuels ended up making 89 off 66 balls, which included nine boundaries and three sixes, while Mohammed remained undefeated on 23 off 16 deliveries, which included a boundary and a six.

Shapoor, Nabi and Rashid Khan claimed one wicket each.

Samuels was named Man of the Match and Man of the Series.
