England have called up pace bowler Steven Finn to replace all-rounder Chris Woakes, who was recently ruled out for the remainder of the Champions Trophy.

Woakes sustained a side strain after bowling just two overs in England’s opening game against Bangladesh on Thursday, which they won by eight wickets.

Finn, who has been playing for the England Lions as of late, could represent England in their second Champions Trophy match against New Zealand on Tuesday as both Jake Ball and David Willey have struggled to have an impact.

The 28-year-old, who played his first ODIs in 18 months in March, was always the frontrunner to take Woakes’ spot on the roster. The other player who was in the running was Toby Roland-Jones, who made his international debut in the third ODI against South Africa at Lord’s on May 29.
