India and Pakistan only play each other at ICC events or tournaments like the Asia Cup

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will hold discussions in Dubai on May 29 regarding the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) they both signed.

Both boards agreed to play six bilateral series between 2015 and 2023 when they signed the MoU in 2014, but India did not play their scheduled series against Pakistan in 2015 and are on track to do the same thing this year.

Since India refused to play Pakistan in 2015, the PCB sent the BCCI a notice of dispute earlier this month as they claim they incurred heavy losses.

While the BCCI pointed out that the MoU is “just a letter” and not a formal “contract”, acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary insisted that the board need permission from the government before they can agree to a series against Pakistan.

He also revealed that the BCCI wrote to the government two weeks ago and added that he has informed PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan about this.

“We still remain committed to playing, but the position doesn’t change: the series cannot go ahead without the permission of the government of India,” Choudhary said. “After PCB wrote to us, we have written to the government of India again, and are awaiting the response. I believe the dialogue should go on, which is why we are meeting.”
