Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shaharyar Khan has confirmed that captain Misbah-ul-Haq will play his last Test series against the West Indies, which starts later this month.

There had been speculation that Misbah would retire after Pakistan’s disastrous tour of Australia in December-January, but he opted to keep hold of the captaincy and feature in the upcoming three-Test series against the West Indies.

While Shaharyar did not speak to the 42-year-old about his retirement, the PCB chairman made it clear that a decision has been taken to make it Misbah’s swansong.

“No discussions have been held with Misbah regarding his retirement. However, a consensus has been reached that the Test matches against West Indies will be his last series,” Shaharyar was quoted as saying by Dawn.

Should the Test series against the West Indies be Misbah’s last, it is likely that the PCB will hand the captaincy to wicketkeeper-batsman Sarfraz Ahmed as he already leads Pakistan in ODIs and Twenty20 Internationals.
