The Delhi Daredevils will be without batsman Shreyas Iyer for at least a week after he was diagnosed with chickenpox.

Iyer is recovering at his house in Mumbai and will miss the Daredevils’s Indian Premier League (IPL) opener against the Royal Challengers Bangalore on Saturday. He is also set to be sidelined for the team’s match against the Rising Pune Supergiants next Tuesday.

Iyer’s illness is a big blow for the Daredevils as they have already lost the South African duo of Quinton de Kock and JP Duminy.

De Kock was ruled out of the tournament with ligament damage in his right index finger, while Duminy withdrew from the IPL due to personal reasons.

Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews is also set to miss a big portion of the competition as he is still recovering from hamstring and calf injuries.

Iyer failed to have an impact in last year’s IPL as he only mustered 30 runs in six matches at an average of five.
