All-rounder Yusuf Pathan is aiming to use the Indian Premier League (IPL) as a stepping stone to make his international comeback.

Pathan has not played for India since 2012, but is hoping to end the drought by impressing the national selectors at the IPL, which starts on Wednesday.

“The brand of cricket I’ve played so far, my only aim has always been to play for India again,” Pathan, who will represent the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL, said. “IPL is one such platform where I can prove myself again.

“To make a comeback for the country is the ultimate aim. It’s about making full use of the opportunity I get here.”

Reminiscing about his ODI debut in 2008, Pathan pointed out that the inaugural edition of the IPL, which was held the same year, played an instrumental role in helping him achieve his dream of playing for his country.

“In fact, I started my career through IPL first season. Of course it’s about performing here and making a comeback,” the 34-year-old said. “I’m sure something new is in store for all of us. Full of entertainment for the team. Some exciting new players have come on board.”

The Knight Riders kick off their IPL campaign against the Gujarat Lions on Friday.
