Lewis struck five boundaries and nine sixes during his knock of 91

West Indies opener Evin Lewis clubbed a series-saving 91 as his side cruised to a seven-wicket win over Pakistan in the third Twenty20 International in Trinidad.

The West Indies came into the game 2-0 down in the four-match series and needed to win in order to keep their chances of ending the series as a draw alive.

Pakistan would have regretted their decision to bat first as on the second ball of the match, opener Ahmed Shehzad was clean bowled by Samuel Badree for four runs.

Two balls later, Imad Wasim was trudging back to the pavilion after being stumped by wicketkeeper Chadwick Walton.

Despite losing two wickets within the first four balls of the match, Pakistan recovered through Kamran Akmal and Babar Azam’s 88-run partnership.

But, just as Akmal was approaching his fifty, he was dismissed by Marlon Samuels for 48, which came off 37 balls and included four boundaries and two sixes.

Once Akmal was gone, Pakistan began to crumble, and not even Azam could stop it from happening as he was clean bowled by Sunil Narine for 43 off 38 deliveries, which included three boundaries and a six.

Even though Fakhar Zaman chipped in with a useful 21, Pakistan were restricted to 137/8 off their 20 overs.

Badree was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets, while Narine, Samuels, Kesrick Williams and captain Carlos Brathwaite chipped in with one wicket apiece.

Chasing 138 to win, the West Indies lost Walton early on, but Lewis and Samuels made up for it with a 56-run partnership before Samuels was removed by Wahab Riaz for 18.

Lewis and debutant Jason Mohammed kept the runs flowing with a 76-run stand, during which Lewis sailed past his fifty.

However, just when he was within touching distance of his second century in the format, Shadab Khan sent him packing for 91, which came off 51 balls and included five boundaries and nine sixes.

Despite the loss of Lewis, the West Indies went on to win the match comfortably as they reached their target with 31 balls to spare.

Wahab, Shadab and Sohail Tanvir claimed one wicket each.

Lewis was named Man of the Match.
