Afghanistan stunned the West Indies when they met at the World Twenty20 last year

Afghanistan will play their first bilateral series against the West Indies in June when they travel to the Caribbean for three Twenty20 Internationals and three ODIs.

The series will take place during the time of the Champions Trophy as the West Indies failed to qualify for the tournament. To make matters worse, the West Indies haven’t won a bilateral ODI series since 2014.

For Afghanistan, this will provide them with much-needed exposure at the international level as Zimbabwe are the only Full Member nation they have played a full series against. It will also be their first time playing ODIs against the West Indies as the two nations have never met in the 50-over format before.

“It will also be an important series for our side as they look to move up in the ICC World Rankings in the two formats, and continue their quest to qualify for the 2019 ICC World Cup in England and Wales,” Roland Holder, the West Indies Cricket Board’s (WICB) Manager of Cricket Operations, said.

The three-match Twenty20 series will begin on June 2 and all the games will be held in St Kitts. As for the ODI series, which gets underway on June 9, all three matches will be played at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in St Lucia.
