India captain Virat Kohli will miss the fourth Test against Australia in Dharamsala after failing to sufficiently recover from a right shoulder injury.
Kohli underwent a fitness test on Saturday morning, but failed to prove that he would be fit enough for the series decider.
With Kohli out, vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane will take over as captain.
Speaking about Kohli, Rahane said: “He is not 100 per cent fit so that’s why he opted out.”
Kohli injured his shoulder while diving to stop a boundary on the first day of the third Test in Ranchi. He subsequently missed the remainder of the opening day and the entire second day after being diagnosed with a shoulder strain.
On Friday, the 28-year-old made it clear that he could not feature in the fourth Test unless he was 100 per cent fit.
India and Australia are tied at 1-1 going into the final Test.
