Jamshed is the third player to be provisionally suspended by the PCB

Out-of-favour Pakistan opener Nasir Jamshed has become the third player to be provisionally suspended by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as they continue their investigation into a corruption scandal in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Jamshed was not picked by any franchise for the PSL, but is the latest player to be suspended after Islamabad United duo Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif.

“PCB has provisionally suspended Nasir Jamshed from all forms of cricket for violating its anti-corruption code,” a PCB statement, issued on Monday, said.

Jamshed’s name has been floating around ever since Sharjeel and Latif were provisionally suspended and sent home from the tournament, but it is unclear how he is involved.

Nonetheless, PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan confirmed that show cause notices will be sent to Jamshed, Sharjeel and Latif.

Three other players – Mohammad Irfan, Zulfiqar Babar and Shahzaib Hasan – were questioned by the PCB’s anti-corruption unit.

Irfan also plays for Islamabad United, while Zulfiqar and Shahzaib are representing the Quetta Gladiators and Karachi Kings respectively.

“There is a legal way to move forward and first show cause notices are being sent to both players (Sharjeel and Latif) and they are likely to receive it tomorrow,” Shaharyar said. “Two players Shahzaib and Zulfiqar were under the scanner but are cleared and free to play. Irfan, however, is still under observation but he hasn’t been issued any show cause notice so far.

“But probably in a day or two he will also be served. Apart from these five players I confirm no other player playing in the PSL is related to this issue.”
