Sharjeel could be banned for life

Pakistan batsmen Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif could be facing a life ban for their alleged involvement in a spot-fixing scandal in the ongoing edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), sources in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) told the Daily Express on Sunday.

Sharjeel and Latif, who play for Islamabad United in the PSL, have been provisionally suspended by the PCB and sent home from the tournament, which is being held in the United Arab Emirates.

The sources claim that the board are likely to present a chargesheet against the pair on Tuesday after they gave confessional statements.

According to Dunya News, Sharjeel and Latif met a bookie named Yousaf and the former was allegedly offered Rs 2 million for two dot balls.

Three other players – Mohammad Irfan, Zulfiqar Babar and Shahzaib Hassan – were questioned by the PCB’s anti-corruption unit on Saturday, but were not suspended and are free to continue playing in the PSL.

While Sharjeel and Latif will likely learn their fate soon, there are more players believed to be involved in the scandal, including from other franchises like the Lahore Qalandars and Quetta Gladiators.
