Western Australia head coach Justin Langer believes that batsman Shaun Marsh should occupy the coveted No.6 spot in the Test team for the forthcoming four-Test series against India.

Langer, who will coach Australia’s Twenty20 team in the upcoming three-match series against Sri Lanka, added that Marsh has proved his form time and time again.

But, it remains to be seen whether Marsh will be selected as he has not played Test cricket since breaking his finger in the first Test against South Africa in Perth last November.

“It depends on which balance they go for, how Australia wants to line up,” Langer told AAP. “If they go the traditional XI you’d pick Shaun because of his record in not only the subcontinent but for Australia.

“He deserves to play, Shaun deserves to play in the Test match. Even before his injury, he deserved to play.”

The first Test between India and Australia begins on February 23 in Pune.
