Ben Dunk smashed an unbeaten 79 as the Adelaide Strikers cruised past the Hobart Hurricanes by five wickets.

Choosing to bowl first, the Strikers were well on top early on as they took a number of quick wickets to leave the Hurricanes reeling at 30/5 in the sixth over.

However, Jonathan Wells and Beau Webster came to the rescue for the Hurricanes as they amassed an 89-run partnership, during which Wells brought up his half-century, before he was dismissed by Ben Laughlin for 55, which came off 37 balls and included two boundaries and three sixes.

Despite losing Hamish Kingston and Cameron Boyce shortly after, the Hurricanes still managed to finish on 161/8 off their 20 overs courtesy of Webster’s unbeaten knock of 67, which came off 43 deliveries and included six boundaries and a six.

Chris Jordan was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, while Laughlin and Billy Stanlake snapped up two wickets apiece. Travis Head, meanwhile, chipped in with one.

Chasing 162 to win, the Strikers lost opener Jake Weatherald for seven runs before Head was on his way back to the pavilion after having made just nine runs.

Dunk and captain Brad Hodge steered the innings back in the right direction with a 68-run stand, during which Dunk surpassed his fifty, before Hodge was caught behind off the bowling of Stuart Broad for 30.

Kieron Pollard and Jono Dean did not last long at the crease, but Dunk guided the Strikers over the finish line with 10 balls to spare thanks to his superb innings of 79 not out, which came off 49 balls and included eight boundaries and three sixes.

Broad and Daniel Christian took two wickets apiece, while Kingston claimed one.

Dunk was named Man of the Match.
