Anderson will not feature in the upcoming tour of Bangladesh

England pace bowlers James Anderson and Mark Wood will miss the upcoming tour of Bangladesh as they are both nursing injuries.

Anderson was ruled out of the tour as he has not sufficiently recovered from a shoulder injury that plagued him during the summer, while Wood suffered a recurrence of a recent injury to his left ankle.

As a result, Jake Ball has been added to the Test squad as a replacement for Anderson, while Steven Finn will take Wood’s spot on the ODI roster.

Last week, Anderson admitted that he would have to be carefully managed during the winter, during which England will play seven Tests in the space of two months, in order to ensure he stays fit and plays to the best of his ability.

“It’s a tough one because as a player, if you’re fit, you want to play, simple as that. No matter what the format, you’re desperate to play,” the 34-year-old had said. “But there may well come a time when it will get managed. At 34, I probably have to manage myself, or be managed, quite well. You want, if possible, to play every Test but India is going to be five back-to-back and that’s a huge ask for any bowler.”

If England fail to find an opportunity for Anderson to prove his fitness, he could head into the tour of India later this year having not bowled a ball in competitive cricket for almost three months.
