Kraigg Brathwaite is set to get his first taste of limited overs cricket after he was drafted into the West Indies’ ODI squad for their upcoming series against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates.
Brathwaite has played in 31 Tests since making his international debut back in May 2011, but has never been able to break into the limited overs squad until now.
In addition to Brathwaite, the West Indies have also picked the uncapped duo of Evin Lewis and Alzarri Joseph.
Lewis recently made a superb century against India while debuting in a Twenty20 series late last month, while Joseph made his Test debut in August and picked up three wickets.
Chris Gayle, Darren Sammy, Dwayne Bravo, Lendl Simmons, Andre Russell and Samuel Badree were ineligible for ODI selection as they did not feature in the domestic 50-over tournament last season, which has become a mandatory requirement for all players.
In regards to the Twenty20 squad, the West Indies brought in wicketkeeper-batsman Nicolas Pooran after his stellar performance in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), where he made 217 runs in eight innings at a strike rate of 197.27. Uncapped all-rounder Rovman Powell was also included in the side.
Chris Gayle and Lendl Simmons were not part of the squad as the former made himself unavailable, while the latter has been ruled out due to medical reasons.
The West Indies will begin their series against Pakistan with three Twenty20 Internationals from September 23-27 before playing a three-match ODI series, which begins on September 30. A three-match Test series, which includes a day-night Test in Dubai, will follow.
