New Zealand opener Tom Latham and captain Kane Williamson left Zimbabwe reeling on the second day of the first Test in Bulawayo after scoring 105 and 91 respectively.

Starting off the day on 32/0, Latham and Martin Guptill converted their 32-run partnership into a 79-run stand before Guptill was dismissed by debutant Chamu Chibhabha for 40.

Latham and Williamson kept the runs flowing with a 156-run stand, during which Latham brought up his fourth Test century and Williamson his half-century.

Hamilton Masakadza provided the breakthrough Zimbabwe sorely needed as he removed Latham for 105, which came off 209 balls and included 12 boundaries.

Latham and Williamson made history with their partnership as it is the highest second-wicket stand for New Zealand in a Test match against Zimbabwe.

Williamson went on to make 91 off 179 deliveries, which included nine boundaries, before he was dismissed by Zimbabwe skipper Graeme Cremer.

Henry Nicholls failed to have an impact with the bat as he was sent packing by Donald Tiripano.

Despite the quick loss of wickets, Ross Taylor and Ish Sodhi, who was sent out as the nightwatchman, amassed an unbeaten 16-run partnership before stumps was called.

Taylor ended up making 38 off 77 balls, which included five boundaries, while Sodhi remained undefeated on five off 19 deliveries, which included one boundary.

Chibhabha, Tiripano, Cremer and Masakadza claimed one wicket each.

New Zealand ended day two on 315/4 and will continue batting on Saturday at 09:30 local time or 07:30 GMT.
