Dwayne Smith and Nic Maddinson made half-centuries as the Guyana Amazon Warriors cruised past the Barbados Tridents by six wickets and booked their spot in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) playoffs.

Being put in to bat first, the Tridents’ innings was dominated by Shoaib Malik as he smashed an unbeaten 55 off 44 balls, which included three boundaries and two sixes.

Malik was well supported by David Wiese, who hammered 40 off 31 deliveries, which included three boundaries and a six.

With Ahmed Shehzad and Kyle Hope being the only other batsmen to reach double figures, the Tridents were restricted to 142/7 off their 20 overs.

Sohail Tanvir and Rayad Emrit picked up two wickets apiece, while Adam Zampa, Chris Barnwell and Steven Jacobs chipped in with one wicket apiece.

Chasing 143 to win, the Amazon Warriors got off to a brilliant start as Smith and Maddinson amassed a 92-run partnership, during which Smith brought up his half-century, before he was dismissed by Raymon Reifer for 50, which came off 34 balls and included five boundaries and three sixes.

Maddinson went on to score 50 off 41 deliveries, which included six boundaries and a six, before he was removed by Imran Khan.

Even though Chris Lynn and Jason Mohammed fell soon after, the Amazon Warriors managed to reach their target with 10 balls to spare.

Reifer was the most successful bowler with two wickets, while Khan and captain Kieron Pollard claimed one wicket each.

Smith was named Man of the Match.
