The Kolkata Knight Riders overcame the rain to breeze past the Rising Pune Supergiants by eight wickets via the Duckworth-Lewis method.

Opting to bat first, the Supergiants found themselves struggling right from the get-go as batsmen continued to fall at regular intervals.

It was only thanks to the Australian duo of Usman Khawaja and George Bailey, who made 21 and 33 respectively, that the Supergiants reached 103/6 off 17.4 overs before the heavens parted.

Piyush Chawla picked up two wickets, while Andre Russell, Shakib Al Hasan and Ankit Rajpoot took one wicket apiece.

After nearly two and a half hours, the rain subsided and the Knight Riders were set a target of 66 to win off nine overs.

Their chase didn’t start well as wicketkeeper Robin Uthappa and skipper Gautam Gambhir were both dismissed in the first over.

Despite the double blow, Yusuf Pathan and Manish Pandey guided the Knight Riders to victory courtesy of their unbeaten 58-run partnership.

Pathan finished on 37 off 18 balls, which included four boundaries and three sixes, while Pandey remained undefeated on 15 off 10 deliveries, which included one boundary.

Ravichandran Ashwin claimed both of the Knight Riders’ wickets.

Pathan was named Man of the Match.
