Veteran West Indies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket.

Chanderpaul represented the West Indies in 164 Tests and finished as the West Indies’ second-highest run-scorer in the format behind the legendary Brian Lara. Chanderpaul scored 11,867 runs at an average of 51.37 in his illustrious career, while Lara will remain 86 runs ahead with 11,953.

The 41-year-old, who scored 30 Test centuries, also played 268 ODIs and 22 Twenty20 Internationals, making 8,778 runs and 343 runs respectively.

Chanderpaul has not represented the West Indies since May 2015 and while there were talks of him making a comeback, the national selectors provided enough of a hint that his time was up.

Chanderpaul, who did not receive a central contract for the 2015/16 season, informed the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) “in an email that he will no longer be available for selection for West Indies”.

WICB president Dave Cameron lauded Chanderpaul for everything he has accomplished over the two decades he spent playing the game.

“The WICB acknowledges the invaluable contribution Shiv has made to the game globally, and we wish him all the best,” Cameron said.

With Chanderpaul having penned the final chapter of his storied career, he will now represent the Gemini Arabians in the Masters Champions League (MCL) later this month after he was bought for $30,000.
