India have called up uncapped pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah as Mohammed Shami’s replacement for the upcoming Twenty20 series against Australia.

Shami was ruled out of the ongoing tour after suffering a Grade II hamstring injury, which will keep him out of action for four to six weeks.

Bumrah has been highly impressive as of late as he has taken 14 wickets in nine matches for Gujarat in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, which is India’s domestic Twenty20 competition. Bumrah is currently the joint-highest wicket taker in the tournament.

In the 47 Twenty20s he has played to date, the 22-year-old has picked up 52 wickets at an average of 24.53.
