India pace bowler Mohamed Shami has been ruled out of the upcoming limited overs series against Australia due to a hamstring injury.
Shami has been diagnosed with a Grade II injury to his left hamstring, which will require four to six weeks to heal.
The news will is major setback for the 25-year-old, who has not played any international cricket since the 2015 World Cup, as he recently recovered from a left knee injury, which required surgery to fix.
Before India departed for Australia, captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni confirmed that he had big plans for Shami, which included using him during the World Twenty20 in March.
India’s upcoming tour of Australia will consist of five ODIs and three Twenty20 Internationals, which will run from January 12 to 31.
