Pranav Dhanawade, a 15-year-old cricketer from Mumbai, has etched his name in his history after he scored the highest individual score in minor cricket.

Dhanawade blasted an unbeaten 1009 off 327 deliveries, eclipsing the 117-year-old record held by Arthur Collins, who smashed 628 not out in 1899.

Dhanawade also broke the record for the highest individual score by an Indian cricketer in minor cricket as he easily surpassed Prithvi Shaw’s incredible innings of 546 in the Harris Shield in 2013-14.

Dhanawade, who was representing Smt KC Gandhi School, Kalyan, in the HT Bhandari Cup inter-school tournament, started the last day of the two-day game against Arya Gurukul on 652.

He went on to score 1009 in the second session, which included 129 boundaries and 59 sixes, before his team declared on a mammoth total of 1465/3.

In response, Arya Gurukul, who were skittled out for 31 in their first innings, were bowled out for 52 in the second innings and subsequently lost the match by an innings and 1362 runs.

Following his epic achievement, Dhanawade was quoted by India Today as saying: “My teachers have helped me a lot and now I want to play the Ranji Trophy. I have always been a big-hitter. When I started I never thought about breaking the record. The focus was never that, I just played my natural game which is to attack from the word go.”

Legendary India batsman Sachin Tendulkar took to Twitter to heap praise on Dhanawade after his sensational feat, and said: “Congrats #PranavDhanawade on being the first ever to score 1000 runs in an innings. Well done and work hard. You need to scale new peaks!”
