Adelaide Strikers batsmen Travis Head and Mahela Jayawardene both smashed half-centuries to help their side cruise past the Perth Scorchers by 36 runs.
The Strikers’ victory also saw them catapult to the top of the Big Bash League (BBL) points table, where they now sit two points ahead of the Scorchers.
Strikers captain Brad Hodge would have been thrilled with his decision to bat first as Jayawardene and wicketkeeper Tim Ludeman amassed an 84-run partnership, during which Jayawardene brought up his half-century, before he was dismissed by Ashton Agar.
Jayawardene’s terrific innings of 57 came off 37 balls and included seven boundaries and two sixes.

Ludeman ended up making 30 before Head and Hodge put together an unbeaten 65-run stand, during which Head registered his half-century, to lead the Strikers to 174/2 off their 20 overs.
Head ended up finishing on 51 off 31 deliveries, which included one boundary and three sixes.
Agar and Jason Behrendorff picked up one wicket apiece.
Chasing 175 to win, Scorchers all-rounder David Willey was the only batsman to make a decent contribution as he struck a quickfire 31.
With none of the other batsmen passing the 20-run mark, the Scorchers fell well short of the their target as they were bowled out for 138.
Adil Rashid was the most successful bowler with three wickets, while Kane Richardson and Billy Stanlake snapped up two wickets apiece and Head, Ben Laughlin and Jon Holland claimed one wicket each.
Head was named Man of the Match.
