New Zealand dominated Sri Lanka yet again on the fourth day of the first Test in Dunedin and now require seven wickets to win on the final day.

Opener Tom Latham and batsman Kane Williamson starred for New Zealand as they scored 109 not out and 71 respectively.

Starting out the day on 171/1, Latham and Williamson converted their 92-run partnership into a 141-run stand, during which Williamson brought up his half-century, before he was clean bowled by Dushmantha Chameera for 71 off 115 balls, which included seven boundaries.

Ross Taylor was dismissed shortly after before Latham and captain Brendon McCullum put together an unbeaten 20-run partnership. McCullum then opted to declare with his side on 267/3, which left Sri Lanka needing 405 runs to win.

Latham ended up making 109 off 180 balls, which included eight boundaries, while McCullum was unbeaten on 17 off six deliveries, which included two sixes. With those two sixes, McCullum became tied with legendary Australia wicketkeeper-batsman Adam Gilchrist for the most sixes hit in Tests.

Rangana Herath was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets, while Chameera chipped in with one.

Chasing 405 to win, Sri Lanka got off to a solid start before Dimuth Karunaratne was caught behind off the bowling of Tim Southee for 29.

Debutant Udara Jayasundera and Kusal Mendis were both dismissed later on for three and 46 respectively. Just after Mendis was back in the pavilion, a hail storm hit the University Oval and the umpires subsequently brought play to an end for the day.

Southee was the most successful bowler with two wickets, while Neil Wagner claimed one.

Sri Lanka ended day three on 109/3 and will continue batting on Monday at 10:00 local time or 21:00 GMT (Previous day).
