India captain Virat Kohli scored an unbeaten 83 and batsman Ajinkya Rahane made 52 not out to keep their side in total control over South Africa on the third day of the fourth Test in Delhi.

India were supposed to start their second innings on Friday with a 213-run lead in hand after they bowled South Africa out for 121, but that did not happen due to the fading light.

However, once India did get their second innings underway on Saturday, they found themselves in all kinds of trouble as Morne Morkel dismissed Murai Vijay, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan for for 3, 0 and 21 respectively before Imran Tahir removed Cheteshwar Pujara for 28.

With India struggling at 57/4, Kohli and Rahane steered the innings back in the right direction with an unbeaten 133-run partnership, during which both batsmen surpassed their half-centuries, before bad light brought play to an end for the day.

Kohli finished on 83 off 154 balls, which included 10 boundaries, while Rahane remained undefeated on 52 off 152 deliveries, which included five boundaries, as India’s lead went past 400 runs.

Morkel was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, while Tahir claimed one.

India ended day three on 190/4 and will continue batting tomorrow at 09:30 local time or 04:00 GMT.
