Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq and veteran batsman Younis Khan put their side in a dominant position after England were bowled out for 242 on the third day of the second Test in Dubai.

Ul-Haq scored an unbeaten 87, while Khan, who became the first Pakistani batsman to score 9,000 Test runs, made 71 not out.

Starting out the day on 182/3, England lost Joe Root early on for 88 off 141 balls, which included 12 boundaries. It was from that point that the collapse started as they went from 206/4 to being skittled out for 242, which gave Pakistan a 136-run lead.

Wahab Riaz and Yasir Shah were responsible for the damage as they took four wickets apiece, while Imran Khan chipped in with two.

With a 136-run lead in hand, Pakistan struggled at the beginning of their second innings as opener Shan Masood was caught behind off the bowling of James Anderson for one run, while Shoaib Malik was clean bowled by Mark Wood for seven.

However, Khan and Hafeez steadied the innings with a 67-run partnership, during which Hafeez brought up his half-century, before he was caught by Root at slip off the bowling of Wood.

Hafeez’s solid knock of 51 came off 76 balls and included six boundaries and two sixes.

Ul-Haq and Khan kept the runs flowing with an unbeaten 139-run stand, during which both batsmen registered their half-centuries, before stumps was called.

Ul-Haq finished on 87 off 137 balls, which included eight boundaries and four sixes, while Khan remained undefeated on 71 off 134 deliveries, which included seven boundaries.
