India’s team director Ravi Shastri will skip the national team’s upcoming tour of Zimbabwe due to professional commitments he agreed to before the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) offered him a two-year contract extension.

It is understood that Shastri agreed to be an analyst for Sky during the highly anticipated Ashes series in England, which starts on July 8.

Since Shastri signed up to be an analyst for Sky before he was offered a contract extension, he has made it clear that he will not be travelling with the national team to Zimbabwe.

India will instead by managed by their three assistant coaches – B Arun, Sanjay Bangar and R Sridhar – as they have been working with the team for nearly a year now.

However, the BCCI are confident that Shastri will be back in time for India’s tour of Sri Lanka in August.
