Somerset have signed wicketkeeper Luke Ronchi as a replacement for his injured compatriot Corey Anderson.

Anderson returned back to New Zealand after being diagnosed with a “bone stress related injury to his lumbar spine”, which he sustained during the first Test against England at Lord’s.

Ronchi will represent Somerset in their last five group stage matches of the Natwest T20 Blast.

The 34-year-0ld will join the Somerset squad when they travel to Uxbridge Cricket Ground to take on Middlesex on June 26. He will also be present for Somerset’s home games against Glamorgan and Gloucestershire and their away matches against Kent and Surrey.

Ronchi has represented New Zealand in 15 Twenty2o Internationals and scored 263 runs at an average of 32.87.

“Luke is a quality player with plenty of International experience,” Somerset’s director of cricket Matt Maynard said. “Any new addition must add something to the squad and he will certainly do that. He is an excellent ‘keeper, an explosive batsman and I am sure that our Members and supporters will enjoy the brand of cricket that he plays.”
