India opener Murali Vijay has been fined 25 per cent of his match fee for having an illegal logo on the bat he used during the one-off Test against Bangladesh.
It is understood that the logo was on the edge of Vijay’s bat, but according to a new International Cricket Council (ICC) rule that came into effect on May 1 this year, “any number of Manufacturer’s Identification and/or design feature permitted on the edge of the bat but only within the top 9 inches”.
Even though Vijay scored 150 in India’s only innings during that match, it still ended as a draw due to constant rain interruptions throughout all five days. As a result of the draw, India slipped down to fourth on the ICC Test team rankings.
