Australia only need eight wickets to whitewash the West Indies 2-0 after they set the hosts a target of 392 runs to win on the third day of the second Test in Jamaica.

Starting out the day on 143/8, West Indies pace bowlers Jason Holder and Kemar Roach amassed a 77-run partnership, during which Holder brought up his half-century, before Roach was caught behind off the bowling of Josh Hazlewood for seven.

The West Indies were bowled out for 220 just two balls later, giving Australia a 179-run lead, when Jerome Taylor was given out lbw off the bowling of Hazlewood for a duck.

Holder ended up being stranded on 82 off 63 balls, which included 12 boundaries and two sixes.

Hazlewood was the pick of the bowlers with five wickets, while Nathan Lyon snapped up three and Mitchell Starc and Mitchell Johnson chipped in with one wicket apiece.

With a 179-run lead in hand, Australia got off to a superb start as David Warner and Shaun Marsh put together a 117-run partnership, during which both batsmen registered their half-centuries, before Warner was caught behind off the bowling of Roach.

Warner’s excellent knock of 62 came off 110 balls and included seven boundaries and a six.

Marsh went on to score 69 off 153 deliveries, which included nine boundaries and a six, before he was caught by Holder at short midwicket off the bowling of Veerasammy Permaul.

Steve Smith and captain Michael Clarke stabilised the innings with an unbeaten 49-run partnership, during which Smith recorded his half-century, before Clarke decided to declare with his side on 212/2, which set the West Indies a target of 392 to win.

Smith finished on 54 off 83 balls, which included five boundaries and a six, while Clarke remained undefeated on 14 off 44 deliveries, which included two boundaries.

Roach and Permaul took one wicket each.

Needing 392 to win, the West Indies got off to a horrible start as Starc clean bowled opener Kraigg Brathwaite for a duck on the third ball of the innings.

Starc struck again just three balls later when debutant Rajendra Chandrika was caught by Marsh at gully for a duck.

Darren Bravo and Shane Dowrich steadied the innings with an unbeaten 15-run partnership before stumps was called.

Bravo ended up making eight off 27 balls, which included a six, while Dowrich remained unbeaten on one.

Starc was the only bowler to take any wickets.

The West Indies ended day three on 16/2 and will continue batting tomorrow at 10:00 local time or 15:00 GMT.
