Even though veteran West Indies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul has not been included in the squad for the upcoming Test series against Australia, he has hinted that he will call it quits at the end of the series.

However, Chanderpaul, who has played 164 Tests and only needs 87 runs to surpass Brian Lara as the highest West Indian run-scorer in Tests, has made himself available for the Test series should someone else pull out.

“I would make myself available for the upcoming Australia series,” he said. “At the conclusion of the series, it would give me an opportunity to thank the WI public and the board for all the opportunities.

“It may also be an occasion for the WICB to recognize me for my long and dedicated service. It would be a good send off after dedicating 21 years of my life to WI cricket.”

Should Chanderpaul retire after the Australia series, it will mark the end of his illustrious 21-year international career.
