Pakistan left-arm pace bowler Mohammad Amir may start playing competitive cricket next month since the International Cricket Council (ICC) are set to approve his reintegration under their recently revised anti-corruption code.

Amir was banned for five years after he was found guilty of spot-fixing during a Test match against England in 2010.

Even though the Pakistan domestic season is set to end very soon, Amir could still make his domestic comeback during the Super Eight T20 Cup, which will get underway after the World Cup.

Amir may also try and sign a contract with an English county prior to the start of the season, which begins in April.

However, his attempts to do so may be hindered by UK visa restrictions since he spent six months in prison.

The UK Immigration rules state: “A conviction which resulted in a sentence of less than twelve months’ imprisonment…provides for a mandatory refusal of entry clearance where a person has been convicted of an offence and sentenced to less than 12 months’ imprisonment, unless a period of 5 years has passed since the end of the sentence.”
