The Sydney Thunder has signed England wicketkeeper-batsman Craig Kieswetter and former Australia all-rounder Andrew McDonald for the upcoming edition of the Big Bash League (BBL).

Kieswetter will replace his compatriot Eoin Morgan when he joins the England squad for the ODI tri-series against Australia and India.

“Craig will bring valuable power to the top order this summer and is an able replacement for Eoin Morgan in the second half of the season,” Thunder general manager Nick Cummins said.

McDonald meanwhile will be available for the entire season.

“We were delighted that Andrew McDonald was keen to join the Thunder for BBL04,” Cummins said. “In McDonald and (Jacques) Kallis we now have two world class allrounders giving (coach) Paddy Upton and (captain) Mike Hussey tremendous flexibility around match-day strategy.”
