England batsman Joe Root has signed a new two-year contract extension with Yorkshire, which will keep him with club until the end of the 2016 county season.

In last year’s county season, Root represented Yorkshire in four County Championship matches and scored 275 runs, which included three half-centuries, at a brilliant average of 45.83.

“It is important to keep the squad together as much as we possibly can,” Yorkshire’s director of cricket, Martyn Moxon said. “We have had some success over the last few years, but from our point of view it is only the start and we want to be successful over a period of time. To get the core of the squad signed up for at least the next 12 months is very important.”
