International Cricket Council (ICC) CEO David Richardson has announced that Mohammad Amir’s return to international cricket is “not going to be a short process”.

The Pakistan left-arm pace bowler was banned for five years after being indicted in a spot-fixing scandal during a Test match against England in 2010.

With Amir’s ban set to be lifted in August 2015, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have already sent a letter to the ICC requesting that he be allowed to start playing domestic cricket as soon as possible.

“The PCB has written to us regarding Mohammed Amir. But there is a process to be followed,” Richardson said. “Interviews need to be conducted with the player involved to establish his state of mind and how he has progressed. And things will be taken from there. So it’s not going to be a short process but one which will require our attention.”
