The Brisbane Heat have signed West Indies spinner Samuel Badree for the upcoming edition of the Big Bash League (BBL).

Badree has taken 31 wickets in 22 Twenty20 Internationals at a superb average of 14.96 and also has an incredible economy rate of 5.39. As a result of this, he currently occupies the top spot on the International Cricket Council (ICC) Twenty20 bowlers rankings.

With Brisbane having signed veteran New Zealand all-rounder Daniel Vettori earlier this year, they now have one of the most prolific spin combinations in the BBL.

Brisbane head coach Stuart Law revealed that Badree first caught his attention during last year’s Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20) when his side squared off against Trinidad and Tobago.

“Samuel bowled really well against us and throughout the Champions League and so we kept an eye on him after that,” Law said. “He’s a different sort of leg-spin bowler but very effective.

“We know we will have two world class spinners for the majority of the tournament and we believe Samuel will bring to the table with us what he has done around the world with such success.

“You look up his record with the West Indies and the domestic teams he has played for and it is first rate. We’re sure he is going to be keen to tick the same box with us.”
