Australia all-rounder Dan Christian has announced that he is eager to represent his country once again.
Christian last represented Australia during the World Twenty20 in Bangladesh in March after having a stellar Big Bash League (BBL) season, in which he scored 186 runs at a brilliant average of 46 and strike-rate of 129.
However, he has fallen off the national selectors’ radar since then as he was not selected for the recent ODI tri-series against Zimbabwe and South Africa and for Australia’s upcoming tour of the United Arab Emirates, where they will play Pakistan.
But, Christian has not given up on his international career just yet as he is looking to represent Australia in their limited overs series against South Africa on home soil.
“Obviously it was a really enjoyable summer for me getting back in that Australian team, so hopefully I can get off to a good start then you never know what might happen,” he said. “I know it’s a bit of a cliché, but you’ve really got to take it one game at a time, and hopefully that other stuff takes care of itself.”
Christian also noted that he thoroughly enjoyed his stint with Middlesex, especially when he smashed 129 runs off just 57 balls against Kent.
“My first game there I got a first-ball duck, then got hit for four the first ball I bowled,” he said with a wry smile. “Probably not how I had imagined it would be, but still a fantastic experience.”
Christian will once again be playing for the Brisbane Heat in this year’s BBL. However, he is hoping they do a lot better than they did last season, where they finished fifth.
“A lot of our games last season we just weren’t able to string complete performances,” he said. “We’d either bowl well and bat poorly, or vice versa.
“The goal really has to be to get those perfect games together and try and get everything clicking at once. Most importantly we need to get off to a good start, which we haven’t done in the last three BBLs.”
Christian added that he was thrilled to see Nathan Reardon sign with Brisbane for this year’s edition of the tournament.
“I’ve played a lot of cricket against him in the last few years, so it’s great to have him on board,” he said. “We’ve been really looking for a solid left-hand middle-order batsman, so he’s going to be a big addition.”
