Veteran Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi will once again lead the country’s Twenty20 team after being named as Mohammad Hafeez’s successor.

Hafeez stepped down as Twenty20 captain after the national team’s disastrous performance during the World Twenty20 in Bangladesh in March.

Afridi was Pakistan’s Twenty20 captain between August 2009 and April 2011, during which the national team won eight games and lost 11.

It is understood that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had narrowed the choice down to Afridi and a younger player, whose name was not revealed. They decided to go with Afridi since he has a lot more experience under his belt.

It was also announced that Misbah-ul-Haq will continue on as Pakistan’s ODI and Test captain.

“In line with my policy of taking decisions democratically I consulted the Cricket Committee and my board members before announcing these decisions,” PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan said. “I wish both Afridi and Misbah very good luck in their upcoming assignments.”
