West Indies opening batsman Kraigg Brathwaite scored a superb unbeaten century to bog down Bangladesh on the first day of the first Test in St Vincent.

Brathwaite was brilliant supported by fellow opener Chris Gayle, who hit 64, and batsman Darren Bravo, who made 62.

Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim would have been regretting his decision to bowl first since Gayle and Brathwaite amassed a 116-run partnership, during which both batsmen brought up their half-centuries, before Gayle was given out lbw off the bowling of debutant Shuvagata Hom.

Gayle wasn’t given out initially, but Rahim decided to review the decision. Unluckily for Gayle, the replays showed that the ball was pitching in line and going on to crash into middle stump, which led to the third umpire overturning the original decision.

Gayle’s entertaining knock of 64 came off 105 balls and included 10 boundaries and a six.

Brathwaite and Bravo stabilised the innings with a 128-run partnership, during which Brathwaite registered his second Test century and Bravo his half-century, before Bravo was caught by Mahmudullah at mid-off off the bowling of Islam.

Bravo’s excellent knock of 62 came off 126 deliveries and included six boundaries and a six.
